Presumably the mailing list (as with other branches of the 'Brass Band
Grapevine') is a mixture of fact, rumour and misconception on this
subject - but as Edy rightly states its all we have at the moment. I
cant help thinking that all this speculation isn't helping Dyke, which
is after all our 'shop window' band. Come in Bob Childs!

I'm gutted for John Doyle. He was really chuffed about getting the sop
job at Faireys when I saw him at the Festival of Brass (He played very
well too!). I've often been impressed by Faireys willingness to give
young 'unknown' players a go (eg. Dave Welsh, Dave Thornton, Ian Yates,
Gaz Beckworth etc..). Looks like they've decided to go for 'a name' this
time though.

For the record (and it goes without saying) Peter Christian wasn't
sacked by Leyland. He's been doing a lot of conducting lately and saw
Bob Blackburn's availability as an opportunity to 'get out' of full time
playing for the time being!

Sponsors want their band to win. Conductors get LARGE amounts of money
to make this happen. Players are dispensable, sack a few and it looks
like something's being done. Just like football really except that the
sponsor rarely seems to sack the conductor!?

To paraphrase Howard Wilkinson, there are two types of player: those who
have been sacked, and those who will be sacked in the future!

Ooerr!!! I mean - Hear, Hear!!!
