Hmmm, I totally agree that women in banding is the best thing since valve oil,
but perhaps with responses such as this, it may help to answer why some bands
exclude women!!

But really, is it because when women join a band, men suddenly find their styles
being cramped? You know, can't tell those dirty jokes, or swear when the bloke
next to you empties his water key all over your shoe (even though I know women
who would make many men blush!). Not that I condone any of this of course.
An interesting episode happened in a swing band I am in. Up until recently, it
has consisted only of men. Then a girl in her early 20's was invited by another
fellow to come and play sax. When she arrived, we all made her welcome etc. but
what a difference to the attitudes of the other players (to the better (?)).
Seems that every time she is there, the band undergoes a personality change.
Rather odd.

We have many women in our brass band, with many of them far better than the
males on the same instruments. We also have a woman conductor. But they are
there, because they have earned the right to be. As it should be anywhere in
today's society, not just banding!
