Re: money in banding

Andy Wooler spoke of:

<<1) If "rank and file" players get 20 a job, what to the real stars get?

<<2) Do players in top bands get paid for attending contests as well?

<<3) What sort of percentage of sponsorship money is used...

<<4) for those bands that have a significant MU membership, are union rates
paid for gigs?

<<...large sponsorship deals

<<As for the lottery and equal opportunities, surely bands applying for
grants...>>

In the States, there is no lottery for bands, virtually no corporate
sponsorship, and no pay for players (with the exception of a few
"professional" bands, such as River City, Battle Creek, etc.). It's all
sheer volunteerism for the love of the music and our instruments. I was
under the impression that this was also the case in the U.K. brass bands.
Was I wrong?
