The following are the results of the 1999 North American Brass Band Association Championships held April 23-24 in St. Charles, Illinois: Challenge Section Winners: St. Louis Brass Band, who performed: Strike Up the Band (George Gershwin/Goff Richards) Test Piece: A Moorside Suite (Gustav Holst) Hinemoa (Gareth Wood) Honors Section Winners: Cincinnati Brass Band, who performed: Tryptich (Philip Sparke) Test Piece: Sinfonietta (Erik Leidzen) Championship Section Winners: Brass Band of Columbus, who performed: Fest Musik der Stadt Wien (Richard Strauss/Eric Banks) Adagio (from Adagio for Strings) (Samuel Barber/William Gordon) Molly on the Shore (Percy Grainger/Howard Snell) Test Piece: Isaiah 40 (Robert Redford) Steve Sykes played fantastic solos with the Illinois Brass Band on Friday night and with the Chicago Staff Band on Saturday night. Brett Baker was also a soloist on Friday night's concert.
