Monkey, and a good many other males, apparently, do not like women in their bands. So what! It isn't sexist, per se, and nobody has suggested that women players are not as good as or better than any of the males. They do not need a reason, but if the members of an all male band were to give reasons they might all be different! Some might even say that their wives were not happy about women in the band, a lot of Navy wives do not like Wrens being at sea with their husbands. I didn't hear a great fuss from the men excluded from the Ivy Benson Big Band, and was there not also an all female JSVB style ensemble a year or two back. I cannot therefore understand this obsession that some females have of trying to force themselves into organisations that do not want them as members, it has nothing to do with old fashioned attitudes or women having the vote or anything important. It is simply a matter of preference, and if Monkey's stats are to be relied on then 5 bands, comprising, at most, 150 men prefer to be in an all male band. Big deal! I have to say that I do not have any problem with females in bands, most of them are better players than me anyway, but then again, so are most of the youngsters whose feet don't reach the floor (how do you keep time if you can't tap your foot?), and I also don't have a problem with any females who want to start their own exclusive band. Doubtless I will be told the answer to my question, but I wonder whether any of the lady listers will dare to agree with me? ;-)) Rod G -- unsubscribe or receive the list in digest form, mail a message of 'help' to
