By this reasoning, the standard is, indeed RAISED when one ceases discriminate against a part of the population. After all, when you have, say, an all-male band, you've already made sure that qualified players can't get in by virtue of being female, and you have likely allowed inferior players in as a result of excluding people on the basis of gender.. I find it ironic when the "lower-the bar" argument is trotted out against anyone trying to be inclusive rather than exclusive. To put it another way, a Black professor I know pointed out that the most pervasive affirmative action programme ever employed was the one that allowed only white males into professions, trades, universities, etc. > > ... to appeal to 'political correctness' or to appease sexual > orientation. The only "political correctness" I have seen in all of this discussion is the political correctness of the antedeluvian, male, conservative variety. Robin Oye -- Robin L.
