Steer them towards Fodens, or Dyke, or is it only the male only bands that you see as top class. Better still start an all girl band, they are allowed and there are enough good female players to audition straight into the Championship section, like First City Brass have done (btw they are, I believe a mixed band). Then you can compete and beat the best and your troubles are over. Sooner or later your pupils will have to learn that they cannot have everything that they want in life, it is equally difficult to tell them, boys and girls, that they won't be able to join a top band because they don't have the ability.
