I read on the insert of the Heritage in Brass  Album where he says "As soon
as I was confident in the use of the double-octave arpeggio, I introduced it
into solos... and wrote my own cadenzas to display it...dubbed the Cowboy
Cadenza".   Don't we all?? ;-)
