Re: Brassed Off

It's neither a Conn or B&H, it's a Benge 190. Benge was purchased
by King before UMI acquired King. The Benge trombones are basically
a redesigned King series and are made in Eastlake, Ohio along with
the King and Conn lines. They changed to brass outer slides and
went to annealing the bells. The 190 is basically a revamped King
4B - .547" bore and 8.5" bell (slightly smaller than the King 8.625").
Benge and King slides and bells interchange. The entire Cleveland
Orchestra section plays Benge as do many american artists, but UMI
has not met with much success with the line in the UK and Europe.
The Benge 190 is no longer listed - it is only available with an
F attachment as the 190F, but the King 4B and Conn 8H are back in
production. Strange.
