993/994 BBb tubas

I've experience of both these models, after trying them head to head at
Booseys. The 993 is (in my humble opinion) by far the better instrument,
but is aimed at the non brass band market. I have to play a 994 because
most English bands wouldn't accept anything else! Consequently, I have had
my 994 modified (lower mouthpipe, sharpened first and main tuning slides) by
Booseys, but it is still out of tune on some valve combinations. The sound
of both instruments is very good, but very different, the 994 having quite a
"woolly" sound against the 993's more direct approach. It all depends what
you are after! By the way, the 993 is a lot easier to blow! Any more
queries, drop me a line!
