Lars, The Concerto Grosso is a totally different piece to the Concerto No.1 - Derek Bourgeois has a web-site of his own detailing everypiece written by him and these are listed seperately. Hopefully this will save people money buying the CD when it's not the piece they are looking for. I'm sorry if Nick Childs is a member of the list - I have just done him out of sales of the Festival of Brass CD - sorry Nick! Richard Dyson Lars said: "The piece is a transcription for brass band of a piece commissioned by Phillip Jones in 1979, for his brass ensemble. The work is in one continous movement. A Motto theme is announced at the outset, and this rcurs in several guises throughout the piece. The first section proper is fast and energtic, slowly subsiding into a rather lugubrious slow episode with a climactic central section. The final section is in a sort of distorted rumba rhythm and is a tour de force for the instrumentalists. The term "Concerto Grosso" is used in the baroque sense, as throughout the piece snall groups of players are feature against a ripeno background of the rest of the ensemble. The first performance of this version for brass band was given by the Sun Life Band, in a BBC Bandstand broadcast in 1982. This is the program notes from the CD, Festival of Brass 1991, by Derek Bourgeois him self." Lars --
