The ICQ List ( http://www.xmission.com/~listmill/icq.cgi?a=363 ) has now
gone over the 100 mark - of you're not already on, then give the site a
visit.

Those of you on the list may have received a memo recently which was sent
via the ICQ list - to ensure there is no doubt, people can send emails to
you if you disclose your email address on this list. You need to be aware
though that such emails are sent without any formal endorsement from the
list owner.
The list was set up in conjunction with Nigel Horne whose homepage is the
accredited homepage for the ICQ list. Personally, if I feel the need to
search Brass Band sites on the net, I use the global search facility already
in place at Nigel's site (on his homepage) which already spiders most of the
band sites.

This memo is not intended to knock the efforts of the person who emailed
you, but to point out the connection between the ICQ site and an existing
facility we already have.
More importantly, this has highlighted the possibility that others may also
choose to use the list for more spurious marketing purposes in the future -
I have no control over this. As a listmaster, I am not permitted to use the
list for any kind of mass email marketing activity and would request that
any one reading this who had this sort of thing in mind should respect my
wish that the ICQ list remains non-commercial.

You will hopefully be assured by the following statement from the owners of
ListMill, who host the site for me:

If you were concerned in the past about the privacy of your List Members and
yours, there is no more reason to worry.

We implemented a new feature that prevents visitors or email harvesters to
get the email addresses of your List Members. The email addresses are not
visible anymore in List Pages.

Still, messages can be sent to the members and to yourself. But now the
message is sent through a form that allows this without disclosing the email
address of the recipient.

To see how it works, please visit any List Page and click on the email
address of any List Member.

We encourage you to pass this information to all your List Members since
privacy is a hot issue today and the way we implement it is a real advanced
and secure approach.
