Over the last 40 years I've played in some good bands in both countries and
imho there is no overly aggressive rivalry involved (at least not like there
is in rugby union and cricket).  Of course, OZ bands don't like being beaten
by visiting NZ bands and vice versa, but it seems to me there is always
respect and admiration for good playing regardless of a band's origins.

Having said that, its also true that visiting bands often have an annoying
habit of winning which isn't very considerate of them, so its a good feeling
to knock off a visitor (so to speak), whichever side of the Tasman Sea the
contest is being held.
