Notation Editors (fwd)

For my thinking, Noteworthy is still the best value for money Notation tool
around.
It will cost you about 25 pounds, and can do about 80% of the things that an
arranger would want.
Notable exceptions:
- back to back repeat bars ugly
- multiple bars rest in parts nonexistant
- anacrusis not handled well
- no trills/decorations
- no hairpins
- can't move a lot of things on the stave (have to delete and replace)
- no global commands (eg. mark "piano" for all parts, or tempo marking for
all parts)
Plusses:
- good midi import
- good midi playback including dynamics, attacks and tempos
- good keyboard commands (anyone doing a lot of stuff, should ignore the
mouse in any application if possible)
- free text and font choices allow for good formatting
- grace notes
- good part extraction, allowing for labelling of parts with instrument name
etc.
- will handle large scores well (easily up to complete band size)
- regularly updated version (free) and online wishlist
- website linking other users together - including some brass banders (may
save you a great deal of time)

IMHO, I think this is perfect for the beginner, who doesn't want to spend
money and wants a decent result quickly.

There is also a version 2 on the horizon, which will undoubtably be much
better, but probably more expensive too.

Noteworthy is fine if you only want to do a few line but not for scores...
also try for free mozart www.mozart.co.uk i think - you have to pay for more
than 3 line and part extraction....
