Brass band competitions seem to major upon burocratic red tape rather than playing excellence. In my experience those who cannot play whinge, and those who can maintain a dignified silence! After all, who on the respective regional committees has actually done the business? They are by and large 'wannabees', they rely on other people's endeavours for their own personal glory. I have and still do compete at all levels - but I have also served on the regional committee and I have seen at first hand the simplistic beaurocratic method of dealing with bands. Whilst we need these volunteers to do the work we should not allow them to have a positive influence. The solution is for the top bands to take a more active participation and perhaps then we might see a more sensible solution. After all a fourth section delegate is far more likely to see things in a different light than say one from Dyke or Brighouse. The lower section bands certainly have a place but if you look at the regional committees their influnce in disproportionate to the section as a whole!! > --
