Whilst I agree with this sentiment in general, there are a number of
circumstances where a more reasonable view should be taken - I know of a
band where the secretary left with some bad feeling towards the band and
proceeded to destroy any band correspondence, entry forms, cheques etc which
were sent to her for about the next two years without telling anybody.

To assume that any band that rehearsed solidly for a month to qualify
doesn't care about going to the Finals is daft - why do you have to re-enter
at all - do they think that you will have changed your mind and say -
naaaah, can't be bothered.

On second thoughts, seeing the pieces we have to play this year that is
probably a fair assumption. I know of at least one 2nd section band that is
already considering withdrawal as Three Figures is way beyond them. As for
Concerto for Band in the Champ section - I hope that it has been
substantially revised as the original does not appeal at all to me - from a
playing or listening point of view.
