I think that every single band should have been extra careful to adhere to the rules and deadlines that have been given by the NCC. The NCC set its stall out to be totally inflexible when they stopped bands competing at the area championships if their entry forms were not received on time. The fact that 3 bands have been excluded does seem to raise some concerns with me. Every band in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th sections managed to get their acceptance forms in on time !! What does this say about the professionalism and management of 2 well established championship bands, indeed it is not that long since Desford actually won the event. To perform at the National Finals is a privilege and should not be taken for granted. Indeed, as Lance Christopher stated, Redbridge have performed at the Finals many times. Too many people take qualification for granted and do not seem to grasp the fact that many people from around the UK and indeed the world would love to perform at this event. One last thought. If Faireys, Fodens, Leyland, YBS or Brighouse had failed to get their acceptance forms in on time, would they have been disqualified? Or would we never have known about it?
