For those in the North West of England near a telly at 6.30 P.M, tune into
Look North. At some point in the news programme there'll be a 2+ minute
slot filmed at our rehearsal about three hours ago. Following is the press
release that attracted them.

"One of the world's oldest and most famous brass bands is eagerly
anticipating the visit of a large party of Australian members of the Jackson
family to their headquarters in Whitefield next Tuesday, 21st September.
Between twenty and forty visitors are expected to make what almost amounts
to a pilgrimage. Their ancestor, Robert (Bob) Jackson, joined the Band in
1869 as a sixteen-year-old cornet player and became Bandmaster in the late
1800's. In 1906 he took part in the first of two World Tours (the second
starting in 1909).

He liked Australia so much that he returned and settled there. He died in
1920. His eighty-two year-old grandson, Stan, paid a short visit earlier
this year during his bicycle tour of England. Stan's son, Keith Jackson, is
now the Managing Director of the large Jackson Wells P.R. company, based in
Sydney. He will be bringing his ten-year old son James, a keen euphonium
player. It must be in the genes.

The evening will begin with a normal rehearsal at 8.00 PM, but this will
finish at approximately 9.00 PM for an informal buffet supper. No doubt
there will be an Australian flavour to the music being rehearsed. The Band
has been informed that there will be a presentation made to them by the
Jackson family, to mark the important occasion.

The Band intends to make a third circumnavigation early in the new
Millennium, but this one should last a mere three or four weeks. The first
two tours lasted eighteen months each. On the first tour, they even managed
to lose Christmas Day when they sailed across the International Date Line.

Other famous brass band figures who have been associated with the band have
been invited to attend."

Happy viewing,
