-----Original Message----- From: Ron Grice <ronhg@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: brass-band@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Wednesday, 15 September 1999 8:26 Subject: March definition Once again the Australian N B C fails to come to grips with the problem they create with the definition of a March quote"The march to be played as part of the on stage music championship be a March which would be suitable to be played on parade in quicktime, approved by the organising committee". Where the problem comes in is the approval by the committee . The contest organisers in Adelaide 1999 wouldn't uphold the protest because the committee had approved it (a Salvation Army festival march" Celebration") the organisers also put a metronome on it and said it was 120 crotcs. per min. When in 1997 a march requiring 8 tympani was played the same reason was given it was" approved by the organisers", and in this case the march was chosen to test the system. N B C either lay it on the line, and if a definition can't be clear leave the march out.Choose something that you can give an accurate definition of. Lets face it ,some of you in the U K are complaining about the letter of the law being upheld, you are better of than here where rules are swayed by the organisers (perhaps they don't understand the rules either) at least you know where you stand as unpalatable as it seems at the time. Ron Grice By the way if anyone can pen a foolproof definition please post it. Monkey you are excluded from this as you have marched in front of my band" sort of" but I'll have you back anytime. --
