Some of you (in the UK at least) may already have heard that Steve suffered
serious injuries last Thursday evening as a result of a car accident.  I am
pleased to report that Steve's wife, Cheryl, has let us know that he is
making excellent progress.  This can perhaps be partly attributed to his
high level of physical fitness (he was due to run in the Manchester Marathon
this coming weekend and had issued lots of sponsor forms to raise funds for
his beloved band).

There were certainly many emotions at play when Steve appeared on TV screens
in last Friday's BBC North West regional news programmes, less than 24 hours
after his accident.

Although he is already itching to wave the baton again, both he and the band
will have to be patient until this patient is sufficiently recovered.  We
are grateful to the many friends within the movement who have already
offered support in the meantime.

I would be happy to forward any messages to his family and the band.
