Re: Test Pieces - likes and dislikes

my absolute favorit of test pieces is Peter Graham's " Essence of Time" ,
unfortunatley I never played this marvellous work but it's not all days
evening.......
a very terrible test piece I find " Hymns at Heavens Gate " the composer
I
forgot..think it's beter for him...it was 1997 test piece on swiss brass
band championship in montreux in the exellent class . an other "swiss
piece"
was "Sarayevo" by Fritz Voegeli ; too terrible, there was bands , they s
ay
:
 we don't play that !
the best work I played my self was " An Epic Symphonie" by Percy Fletcher
 .
I love the works with a lot of music and sound ! there are new, like old
works who can be very nice or very horrible,i think, it is not a questi
on
of the time .maybe I dont understand works like Hymns at Heavens Gate but
 I
believe we play for the audience too and not each of them has studied
music.....
other opinions...?
