Both my husband and I have silent brass (him for cornet, myself for flugel)
and we find it invaluable at times when we both want to practise different
things at the same time, we live in a one bedroom flat in the middle of
Glasgow and can't really play "open" at certain times of night, as our
neighbours would be annoyed. Incidentally, when we first married (last year)
and I moved in, the neighbours asked my husband if I played the violin -
they heard me when they were coming up the stairs, so there can't actually
be that much sound getting out!
