I don't think the silent brass has affected my playing in a bad way, and you
can plug it into a tuner, if you are concerned abut intonation, but you
should try it out for yourself if you are interested!

They do make one for tuba, it's designed to fit all sizes of bell, and I
imagine the price would be sky-high, but if you go to yamaha's web site you
can find information there!
