I am delighted to pass on news about Steve's excellent progress after his recent horrific car accident on his way home from rehearsal a couple of weeks ago. He is now back at home convalescing but, as his jaw will be wired up for some time yet, he will be unable to converse. Any further messages are therefore best written, either as e-mail to me for passing on to Steve, or (if you prefer and already have his home address) direct by snail mail. For the moment, and until Steve and Cheryl say it's OK, it would perhaps be best not to ring or "drop in" unannounced (but with the best of intentions) to see him at home. Steve's plans for taking part in last weekend's Manchester Marathon to raise money towards the band's running costs (pun may have been intended) are greatly appreciated by all band members. The band also wish to publicly thank both Malcolm Brownbill, for stepping in at very short notice to take the first rehearsal after the accident, and Paul Hindmarsh, who is acting Resident Conductor during Steve's recovery. The response shown by the banding fraternity both here and abroad has made it abundantly clear that what unites the movement is infinitely greater than those issues which (usually in a jovial, but occasionally in a cynical manner) divide us.
