Hi list,
Many modern pieces have pedals written.  Curnows' "Trittico" has many, 
almost all the opening section is marked down the octave. "Montage" has a 
lot written, some at quite a speed."Odin" (A.Butterworth)has pedals written 
almost unplayabley.  It has also been argued that pieces such as Resurgam 
would have had the odd pedal but for the limitations of the instrument at 
the time, some of the bass lines jumping octaves for no other reason!  Used 
sensibly, pedals are a worthy addition, but please remember we BBb Bass 
players rarely get anything else exciting to do in brass bands!
