Part of every brass band piece reminds me of something else. There is so little that is truly musically original that it is pitiful. Probably won't change until we stop contesting with its emphasis on technique, technique and technique. Probably just feeling curmudgeonly after playing in a wonderful performance of New World last night, the real orchestral score. The entrance to the chorale ending the 2nd movement must be one of the more nerve racking bits around, but it is there not to find out if you can do it but to make beautiful music. Right in the middle of the register too! Dave.
