I have also heard that the National Lottery are making it harder for brass bands to qualify for funding. I believe the emphasis has moved more towards ethnic minorities etc, although I don't think it is yet impossible to be successful in a bid for instruments. The Pangbourne and District Silver Band started an application, unfortunately we were unable to raise the partnership funding needed, so we abandoned our attempt. We appear not to have the sufficient support of the local community to increase our number of engagements and therefore our cash-flow. Surprisingly (and very regrettably) there also didn't seem to be enough support within the band for other fundraising events to be a huge success - apparently people were content with their own 30 year old instruments!! I would like to think that this attitude within the band is now starting to disappear. Does anybody know the criteria for an application to the Sports Foundation? We would be interested in this as Pangbourne are intending to tour abroad on a regular basis, and as we currently fund this out of our pockets any financial sponsorship would be appreciated!!!
