Re: Coloured shirts and uniforms at contests

John

I don't remember the particular situation you are talking about, but it was
definitely before my time on SABBA. I wonder if there was something else
behind this, as it doesn't sit with the behavior I have observed over the
years. Even if there is anything in the rules about bands wearing uniform,
who is to say what constitutes the uniform except the band themselves (and
quite right too). If the Band decrees that its uniform consists of coloured
shirts then who is to argue? Certainly not the NCC last week, and they are
known to be sticklers for the rules. In my own experience, SABBA didn't
object when Croy used to play in coloured shirts, nor did SABBA object when
Bon Accord used to play in band sweaters. Almost every percussionist in the
land (including me) has played sans jacket at one time or another. No one has
suggested to me that this isn't allowed and would be promptly told where to
get off if they did. While we all have our own views on what a uniform should
consist of, it is a matter for the Band, and no one else.
