Re: Brass Band Groan List.

Couldn't resist any longer after being remembered to the Pie Jesu.
If I see all those pieces in the different groan lists, I can't understand how I
managed to keep playing them all those years.
I would add some others like Hello Dolly (really SH*T), Spartacus, Amparito
Roca, Memory,... Oh this is really masochism, I can not go on to add some more.

All is due to the lack of interest and/or enthusiasm of the people in the lead.
They keep playing those pieces for ages and at the end you can't appreciate
anything anymore. Bohemain wasn't bad at all, but if you play it 30 times a
year!
The worst however is every band is playing the same, surely when conductors move
to other bands and taken their f***ing repertoire with them.
The story then just continues!

About Bernaerts. I hate to play it also, apart from the usual exceptions (maybe
1 or 2 out of some hundreds, during me writing this mail he must have "arranged"
another "piece" :-)) ). However I was astonished to hear he has one of the best
selling companies in Europe. What do you think Frank Bernaerts prefers?

I do not agree with some people telling we should play them after all to amuse
our people, because those are the ones who buy the tickets. We can also amuse
them with quality music and a varying repertoire. You just have to invest some
time in it, and some are indeed "lucky" to have/get a composer in residence. I
would say, you have to deserve your luck.
There's still a lot of good music waiting to be arranged for band.
