Good idea Rod !.....but according to the TV programme there are HUNDREDS of instruments affected in this country. I,ve noticed that brass instruments now cost about TEN TIMES more now than they did in the 70s...yet they are exactly the same design etc. but it would appear some are of inferior quality. This time last year Besson were offering any Sovereign brass instrument FREE if you bought one of the same type at the R.R.P. (it was called the Besson Brass Partners Plan). With millions of pounds pouring in from the Lottery grants maybe manufacturers have had difficulties coping with the demand.....and hell some folk are getting instruments for free ! Pity the individual buying one with hard cash....maybe an instrument that has been tried and rejected by a band (as happens). And a new instrument seems to depreciate 100 % after you've bought it. Dealers say there is no demand for used ones and don't want to know about part exchange. A decent flugel costs about 1200 here in the U.K. For that money you could buy about four washing machines, and a hell of a lot of technology. But......must admit I have,nt tried playing a washing machine !! All the best. David. --
