The following was issued as a press release earlier this week. "After a joint concert with Besses Boys' Band at The Longfield Suite last Sunday afternoon, the Chairman of Besses o'th' Barn Band, Tony Condron, presented Paul Hindmarsh with an engraved tankard. This was to mark the Band's sincere appreciation for Paul's ready acceptance of their request to take up the Resident Conductor's baton until Steve Beardmore was well enough to return. Steve, as you may already know, sustained serious injuries in a motoring accident last month. His recovery has been little short of miraculous and a testament to his high level of fitness and determination. The Band members were delighted when he paid a brief visit to rehearsal last week. The baton will be in back in his hand tomorrow evening (Tuesday, 2nd November). Besses o'th' Barn Band also wishes to record its deep gratitude to Malcolm Brownbill, who stepped into the breach for the very first rehearsal after Steve's accident. It is by selfless acts such as those demonstrated by Malcolm and Paul that the Brass Band Movement displays its true values." John McLoughlin, Acting Press Officer, Besses o'th Barn Band --
