Hi Carol >I was told firstly that I don't hold the instrument correctly, then was told >it was the acid in my skin that was wearing the silver plating. The Sale of Goods Act in your State requires goods to be of merchantable quality and to be fit for the purpose for which they are sold. Since skin is meant to come in contact with the silver plating - the instrument was not fit for the purpose for which it was sold (i.e. holding and playing). >I guess I can understand the acid in the skin part, but after only 6 months? If the instrument was sold to you without any warning that some people have funny skin which will damage the instrument (and the manufacturer/retailer knew of this supposed anomaly) - then that may also be a breach of the Trade Practices Act. The manufacturer has ripped you off. Personally - I don't believe that some people sweat more 'acid' than others. Any biochemists on the list? Volume. --
