On the subject of exams, try and find any young grade 7-8 standard BBb bass 
player who can play any of the boards choices for tuba.  To play at pitch 
would be like asking a cornet player to regularly hit super F's and G's 
(sometimes at pp!)There are no suitable pieces for the instrument, some even 
being written originally for the Tuba in F!  Perhaps this explains the lack 
of qualifications in some of the countries finest tuba players!
