The album is called 'Carnaval' and WM is accompanied by the superb Eastman Wind Ensemble. It was released on the CBS label, number 42137 in 1987. A lot depends on what you consider to be the 'classic' cornet sound, if there is such a thing. IMHO this is one of the all-time great brass solo albums - fantastic technique, oodles of panache, and great arrangements. As far as sound is concerned, Marsalis sounds better on cornet than probably any other trumpet player I've heard but he's not a McCann/Morrison/Marshall/McCulloch to name but four. --
