What's also annoying is when some arranger decides that it'd be a good idea to write all of the percussion part onto one sheet, i.e. kit, glock., sus. cym., timp., etc.. and then provides one copy of the part, when two or three people need to play the part. This usually leads to making a copy of the music. Well actually at Hathern this is rarely the case since we always forget, and in the end you start to 'memorise' the part! I should imagine that most bands do, however, photocopy such parts, which is probably illegal. I sometimes photocopy a page of a test piece and cut a couple of lines from it, to stick on a bad turn-over. Most modern music has this considered though, not making it such a problem as it previously was on older pieces. Interestingly, if I take the music to our local newspaper shop (because they have a really good, clear photocopier) they always remind me that I'm breaking the law (until I tell them what I'm doing). As a further matter of interest where does 'lending' of music come into this copyright stuff? If a band lends a set of parts to another band (on a basis of 'Give this a go, it's a nice arrangement of bla bla..'), is that stealing? Isn't life fun?
