Re: Percussion parts - was: MESSAGE FOR KIRKLEES MUSIC

Your answer shows a complete lack of understanding! You don't really think
that each of the three percussionists has one copy each, which they run
around the stage with, putting on the timp stand to play timps, then running
across, setting up on the xylophone stand one bar later, trying to find the
place then playing, then running to the Tubular Bells a couple of bars later,
going through the same again and so on till the end of the piece? The point
I was making is that you need at least one copy per major instrument (ie
instrument which will have its own stand). That might get to seven or eight
stands, each requiring a copy. This will vary from piece to piece and section
to section, but unless the music is dead simple, you will need more than the
single copy of Percussion 1 and Percussion 2 that you normally get. Without
too much trouble, the publishers could ask a percussionist and provide a
sensible number of parts.
