Hello Donna. You have an open door policy. This means it is open both ways and you are in danger of losing your committed players to another more committed band or away from the banding movement altogether. For your serious members you could form a separate group, rehearsing on a different night, available only to those who can attend more than 90% rehearsals. You may need music for 10 piece band or even quartet pieces to start with, but you will have a quality group having quality rehearsals. For the whole band you could have fun rehearsals conducted by someone with lots of personality, who knows lots of jokes, using uncomplicated, popular music. Emphasis being on social rather than serious. Have supper and raffles for fund-raising. This way you are accommodating all members and hopefully building a quality band that you can be proud of as well. Tell me Donna, do your members have to buy their own instruments and uniforms and do they pay a membership fee? Regards Kaye. --
