RE: keep things right between Sop and Rep

So, Graham, why does it have to be someone of the opposite sex then ? ;-)
More remarks like this and I will certainly stop lurking!

Well Marielle,
( I had to do that cause it rhymes)
That's why banding is fun as well as musically rewarding.
I once made a joke on a classical music list and started
a firestorm of liberal indignation. I think it was over whether
the Vienna Phil should hire women. Personally the way music economics
are going it's lucky they can hire anyone. In Canada most orchestras
are about 50% women and cutting services.

I can only quote from my favourite Operetta "Chaqu'une a son goute."
Each to his own taste. I perhaps should have said "an attractive member of
the
gender (or genders)of your choice". That would be more politically correct
However, being politically correct has never been the first thing that comes
to my mind.
As the famous line from the movies goes "I'm from the west ma'am, where men
are men and women
are glad of it" Of course that line was by Moe of the Three Stooges.

As to my tastes well....I gave that away I suppose.
In my brass quintet I frequently hire women but
more because they play well.

Seriously,
The rep is a solo part. As a trumpet player in orchestras I have
always preferred to have my own part. I would rather play rep or sop
than be one of the crowd on solo cornet. In my opinion the repieno
should be a better player than the 3rd and 4th chair solo cornets.
I always think of the rep+sop as the "trumpet section"
of the brass orchestra. Would you really want to sit in front
of the sop during a FFF top A. Best to be in the back row.

>Well, everybody, have lots of fun with your millennium party or whatever it
>is that you will be doing this Friday.

Playing a brass quintet concert to celebrate 1000 years of brass.

Thanks for your note ;-)

Happy New Millennium
