There seem to be a lot of fake or "reproduction" pocket cornets around at
the moment. I keep seeing them on London junk stalls and in touristy antique
shops. They are usually in bare brass, poorly made, sell for around 30
pounds and just don't work. The last one I saw had 3 identical  valves in it
so only one lined up with the instrument's tubing. I hope you haven't got
yourself a batch of these things!
