Paul,

Try breathing through your nose some of the time.   When you breathe through
the mouth the inhaled warm air will dry out your natural saliva as if you
were blowing a hot hairdryer into it - made worse by the warm, dry
atmosphere of most concert halls.

Breathing through the nose will not disturb the embouchure either!

If that doesn't work try a couple of whiskeys or join the percussion
section - only
