I was interested in the posting that told of Morley Calvert quoting a part of +ACI-Meet The Flintstones+ACI- in his +ACI-Introduction, Elegy And Caprice+ACI-. These sort of things have long been an amusement of mine - sad I know - but I think it stems from when my piano teacher at the RSAMD pointed out to me the in-jokes that Debussy included in +ACI-The Golliwog's Cake-Walk+ACI-. I know of a few that Alan Fernie has included in some of his arrangements, but the best one, I think, is one told to me years ago by one of the older players in the Dalmellington Band. Allan Street had told him that following a commission to write a piece for a Contest - I should admit at this point that details of Contest and piece are a little sketchy, sorry - however during the composition of the work, there was some disagreement between Allan and whoever commissioned the work. Over money I think. Anyway, Allan completed the composition which included a section added following this disagreement. This section comprised the whole band in unison and double forte hammering out a rhythm. The rhythm just happened to be Morse code for +ACI-Bo+ACoAKgAq-cks+ACI- Sandy ps David Williams knew Allan fairly well, perhaps he can confirm or deny this story and has anybody out there got any more? --
