A short paragraph recently appeared in the local Norwich paper referring to the H. F. Howlett Working Girls' Band. Apparently, one hundred years ago, a dinner was held at St. Andrew's Hall (Norwich) for three hundred railway employees of Thorpe Station and the then Victoria Station. Music was supplied by the above named band. The only known company of any size in those days was the boot and shoe company, Howlett & White. Does anybody have any history of that band? Was it connected to that company? And-------were there any other all girls bands in those days (always assuming that it was a brass or brass & wind band of course). Brian Hastings --
