Here here Radox,

Percussionists aren't all mercenary - neither for that matter are all brass
players.

I am up here with Whitburn where we pay to play for the band and yes the
percussion section is the best attended section in the band.

What we must realise though is that some years ago bands changed the rules
so that Professionals could play with them - rightly or wrongly - we
shouldn't criticise those bands who wish to pay players. As has been said
previously, paying a band doesn't guarantee success.
