I don't think it's that cut and dried. I have two bands that I love. The first I started out with and was there for many many years, being involved in all aspects - music, fundraising, committee. It was the band that my dad played in, and his dad before that. It's a local band that practices not 5 minutes from where I live. But I think that as time went on and as I went through changes as a player, sometimes you reach a point where it is time to move on. I was so proud of this band and still am, and it was a really hard decision to leave. I remember my dearest friends from that band I actually went to their house in person to let them know what I was leaving, out of respect for our friendship. Now, as you know, I play in a band in Melbourne which takes me near on an hour to drive to practice. I've been there for 6 years now and realize that this is probably the band I'll finish up in. I have forged many friendships through this band too, and am committed to them, through thick and thin, just like the other one. But it really is a growth thing I think. I hear what you're saying about people chopping and changing bands at whim and we see that over here too, but for me it was a real heart wrenching decision when I left my local band. I still help them out when needed and they know I'm only a phone call away. But with both these bands, I have worn both their names on my sleeve very proudly and have been through many ups and downs with both bands. So sometimes it may not be as cut and dried or ruthless as it seems. Carol --
