Other than the obvious check on mouthpiece condition and allergies associated
with bad plating, I would check on the players teeth.
He may have a sharp, chipped or protruding tooth which may be damaging the
inside of his lip which in turn may result in showing a redness to the front.
A sharp edge on a tooth is sometimes easier to locate by the player lightly
rubbing his tongue around the suspected tooth.
