I have replied to Sue, but it prompted me to share this with you:

Merton College (Morden, Surrey) musical instrument technology department is
holding a brass instrument repair clinic on Saturday 11th March 10.00am -
12.00. You can bring brass instruments and, where it is possible, watch the
students (of all ages...me included) repair them on the spot (free of
charge)...or you can even have a go yourself. If you don't have a broken
instrument come anyway and I will be very pleased to damage one of the junk
instruments specially for you to have a go at!

It's very informal. Just turn up. (End of the Northern line from central
London).
