I asked our Solo Horn Player. She uses a re-manufactured mouthpiece with a plastic rim attached. She said:... "Plasic-rimmed mouthpiece bought in April 98 for approx 50.00. Contacted a David Woodhead who works at :- Phil Parker Ltd 106A Crawford Street LONDON WIH 1AL Telephone No 10714 - 868206 <ed- I think the number is not quite right> Was considering giving up playing due to the discomfort etc caused by the nickle <sic> in the mouthpiece. David Woodhead said that I could either have the mouthpiece re-coated with a thick layer of gold or have a plastic rim fitted. As gold eventually wears thin in time I decided the only permanant cure was to go for plastic. I have had no problems at all since the rim was replaced. If I'd have known about the procedure I would have had it done years ago. I would definately recommend anyone with this problem to speak to David with a view to going plastic." So thats one user's view. regards Steve Larwood, Euphonium, Melbourne Town Band http://www.mtb-brassband.com --
