Hi Robert
The way to tune your bass is the same with all Brass instroments.  You can
tune it with it's self.  First tune your bass to the band (open notes) C &
G. Once in tune use alturnative valves to check your own instroments tuning.
Play G on the stave open, then with 1st & 3rd valves and so on as follows.

G	0pen      1 & 3	4th
E	1&2	3rd
High D    1st	1st&3rd	4th
High E    open     1&2nd	  3rd
A	    1&2	3

This list should help you get your instroment in tune with its self,
although the main tuning factor is of course you and how you play each note.
Just because you bass is "in tune"  as the other bass players in your
section have said lipping in plays a big part in your tuning when playing a
brass instroment
