Hi Y'All, Isn't it wonderful to be able to blow off some steam, (yours or someone else's) and then reduce the volume slightly? Of course, when you move to a new band, you need to be in tune with them, so some adjustment is necessary. I find, oddly, that if the timps go slightly OOT during a rehearsal it makes a pig's ear of my sense of self tuning. However, a kick in the pants is usually good for what ails a recidivist timpanist. It gripes the soul to have the beast you've just helped tune go flat on you:) Being a teechur, I unfortunately only have time to play in one (well 2 if you count the juniors, 3 if you count the school's ...), band, so my experience of re-tuning problems is possibly more limited than it might be. Having said that, I do lead the school band, (by the nose), and sight transpose hymn tunes with a number of less than well-tuned pianos in an attempt to disguise the Year 9 attempts at tuned farting in assemblies.
