I would say that your never too young to have an interest cultivated in brass. For example, my son is 18 months old and he has a wonderful time "playing" my tuba. He "squeaks" into the mouth piece and then runs round the bell to press the valves. I'm trying to encourage to form an embouchure, which means that we have a great time making silly noises.
